Since its founding days in 1960, Pasadena Beautiful
Foundation has had a focus on
community
clean up and tree planting. So every year in November we host Pasadena Beautiful
Day and coordinate a project with school children,
scouting troops, neighborhood associations and city government. Our volunteers
join forces with these community groups and roll up our sleeves to beautify an
area of the city which may show signs of neglect.
Pasadena Beautiful Day
In
2009 Pasadena Beautiful Day took place on Saturday, February 28th, from 8 to
noon. The weather was ideal.
The project, which was to totally redo the Jackie Robinson Center’s gardens, was
a challenge due to the number of gardens and the amount of work that was in
store. 52 volunteers showed up. Ambassadors group, Flintridge Prep,
Westridge, members of the Pasadena Beautiful Board and spouses and City workers.
300 plants and 6 trees were planted beginning at 8. Thanks to all the
hard-working volunteers, we were finished at 10:30. Truly amazing teamwork!
The Plant
Bank, sponsored by Pasadena Beautiful, at Jackie Robinson Center saw a lot of
action. Finch Tree pruned the tree, which offers the Plant Bank a lovely shade
canopy, earlier in the week, so undoubtedly that helped entice people to come
and take the many plants available.
The different Committees that were vital to the success of this day all did a
swell job. It was a wonderful project, and those at Jackie Robinson Center
were very pleased with the outcome. Many thanks to all those who helped
out, both on the day of, and those behind the scenes.
November 2007
we planted 4
crape myrtles and 71 shrubs to transform a median full of weeds and dead shrubs
into a beautiful little pocket park. at the intersection of Washington and Glen.
Two new paths were laid out and a bench by the stop sign will be going up soon.
We could not have done it without the City's help.
